Mementos

On Saturday night, my mom, my aunt, my sister and I all met up at my grandma's former home (my uncle still lives there) to go through some of her belongings. These are a few of the things I was able to take home with me: Rings! I love silver and turquoise.  I've worn rings since I was a little girl. It's funny, my grandma always used to tell me to be ever so careful when I washed my hands in public restrooms, and never to take my rings off when I washed my hands. Every time we'd go some place together, she'd make sure to mention that fact. My grandma prayed a lot. She used to get this magazine called Leaves and let me read her copy. She would always tell me that she'd pray to a particular Saint for certain things. I do believe that I learned about St. Therese's Little Flower novena through her.  (And if you are a follower of the blog, you know I've mentioned St. Therese before.)   A box of clip-on earrings.  I'm going to

A Monday Musing

I wait. I breathe. I find myself lacking all those things  I need to be whole. To be me.  I try.  But it doesn't matter. I sit. I wait.  I'm done. I used to write all the time.  Notebooks filled with poetry and stories.  WORDS.  WORDS. WORDS. Just words. I used to convey all feelings... all thoughts...  all pieces of me. It's lost, that part of me.  It's gone. I was fueled by such sadness and despair  that the words would just flow from my heart, my soul. They'd flood the paper with a rage so deep that I could not contain myself. The page would tear under the sheer passion that flow from inside.   And now, Nothing. I, I, I. It's all about me. I wait. I breathe. I try. I sit. I wait. I'm done.

Happy Valentine's Day

My parents invited us over this past Saturday for pizza. My sister came up with a fun idea to decorate sugar cookies! Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Fat Tuesday

In honor of Fat Tuesday, and my love for everything New Orleans, I finally fixed my charm bracelet last night. The beads and charms were bought the first time I visited the Big Easy. Keith and I went back two years later for our honeymoon.   When re-doing the bracelet last night, I decided to only use my favorite memories for the charms - reminders of our special time together - visiting St. Louis Cathedral, a carriage ride around the French Quarter, a streetcar ride to the Garden District (and Lafayette Cemetery No. 2), and a mask reminiscent of Bourbon Street. I just wish there was a charm for Cafe du Monde! My love for New Orleans began with a book in 1994. Interview with the Vampire. I had seen the movie first, but it was the book I fell in love with. I truly felt at home there more than any other place I've traveled to. I'm so glad I have been able to share that love with the man I love.    Laissez les bons temps rouler!

New digs

One of the great things about my husband is that he likes to paint. And when asked, it's one of the things he usually does very quickly. ;) One of the great things I like about paint is the ability for it to change the entire look of a room. I had been wanting a change, our living room has been the same color scheme since we moved in back in '06. We've added new furniture over the past couple of years, so I knew that the couches were staying the same. The drapes also were pretty expensive (once upon a time) so I wasn't going to change those either. Solution: new paint! (I also removed the valances on the window, and changed out the artwork.) BEFORE:  AFTER: It's hard to tell in this pic, but the door and the wall to the right are a darker color than the rest of the room.

A random update on the Year of Me

I'm not sure if I posted here about this, but I put a lot of thought into my resolutions for 2013. And I decided to be selfish and focus on me this year. On doing good (and healthy) things for me. Except for my usual case of winter blahs, I seem to be doing well. My ultimate goal for the Year of Me is to stress less, be more healthy and mindful, and get off these two medications I have to take for this disease I have. So some randoms things I have been doing so far: Researching essential oils Reading a book on Chinese Medicine: Chill out and Get Healthy: Live Clean to Be Strong and Stay Sexy Using lavender quite a bit Pampering myself with the Salt Cave (ok, it was just that one time and I had a groupon) De-cluttering (More about that at this post: Monica's Closet ) Switched to Bare Minerals make-up - I swear my skin looks better and is breaking out less On the horizon:  A haircut exactly 8 weeks after my last one (usually I get behind, wait 4 months, then
