How I didn't meet JR Ward

I've fallen behind with blogging lately. But there is a lot going on.  Gigi is slowly getting ready to meet Grandpa in heaven, our weekends have been filled with friends' birthday parties, and I was gone two Saturdays in a row.  I feel like I've fallen behind on housework, and I know I am super behind at work.

But in my teeny-tiny bit of free time, I've been reading! At the RT Convention last month, I signed up for a FAN-tastic day pass.  To be honest, the entire goal of going was to meet JR Ward.  However, what they didn't mention on the website was that the big-name authors - Ward, Rice, Harris, etc. gave out 200 wristbands only. And if you were a conventioneer, you got an early access to the book fair.  Which I was not. So there was no wristband for Sarah. And no meeting JR Ward. (Sniff, sniff.)

However, I did get to meet a lot of other great authors! Darynda Jones, Jeaniene Frost, Lauren Willig (Pink Carnation series), Angela Knight (Mageverse series), and Yasmine Galernon (Otherworld series).  And have two books signed:

There were also workshops in the afternoon that I was able to attend.  It was a lot of fun playing Who wants to be a Duchess, while learning about the regency period, having screwdrivers with MaryJanice Davidson and sneaking into the Jane Austen Happy Hour, and attending a Romance Readers Town Meeting.. I prefer paranormal books over regular romance novels, but listening to some authors made me add new books to my TBR list.

After the workshops, there was a Fan-tastic Day Party, where they gave away free books!!! Lots of them!!!

So to recap, this was as close as I got to my favorite author:

But, in happier news, I walked away with all of this:

A bracelet with BONES on one side and I LIKE IT ROUGH on the other..
Ahhh, I love Cat and Bones

Including the new novel by Anne Rice!!!

You hit the mother load! Look at that pile of books! Hope you had a great time, even though you didn't get in early enough to get one of 200 wristbands =).

Book Review...and a Giveaway!!!

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of When the Rogue Returns from Sabrina Jeffries herself! I couldn't wait to read it.  After reading the first book in The Duke's Men series, What the Duke Desires, I was excited to see that this next book was about Victor Cale.

In When the Rogue Returns, Victor Cale is headed to Scotland to investigate a woman, Sofie Franke.  He has his suspicions that this woman is actually Isabella, his wife who disappeared on him ten years before.  He has spent the last decade searching to bring her to justice after she stole the royal jewels and left him to behind to deal with the authorities.  Isabella Cale, now known as Sofie Franke, has built a new life for herself and her ten-year old daughter after her husband ran off with the royal jewels.

Are you intrigued yet?

Victor and Isa's first meeting was great! Both blame the other for the missing jewels, and both are greatly suspicious of the other's motives.  Despite their renewed feelings of pas…

The Tree of Life

My name is Sarah, and it's been 11 months since my last post. I've thought about it, but life is constantly getting in the way. I even made a goal this year to write more, but it really hasn't happened yet.  Until today.

I went on Facebook this morning to check if there were any updates about the accident I saw on the way to work. Instead, I saw an obituary for a woman I've never met. But I know who she is. She received a kidney transplant a few months before I received mine.

And according to her FB page, she had a difficult time leading up to transplant, a tough recovery, lots of additional illnesses and setbacks, and long hospital stays.

I, on the other hand, never had dialysis, was on the transplant list for an unbelievable 5 months (the wait list is normally 5 YEARS), had a 3-day hospital stay, and other than not tolerating pain medication (so I could only take Tylenol which did nothing for the pain), I've been on my merry, healthy way for over 3 years.

Book Review: Sweet Tea and Spirits

Book: Sweet Tea and Spirits
Author: Angie Fox

Verity Long and her ghostly sidekick, Frankie, are on track for another adventure! The book starts out with Verity receiving a mysterious call from the Sugarland Historical Society, stating there was a murder. But how can there be a murder when no body is found? She enlists Frankie's help to investigate, which leads to a humorous and engaging story!

The book is well-written, like the others in this series.  I enjoy reading cozy-mysteries, especially those that focus on the paranormal.  The author does a great job of creating funny characters with depth.  I definitely recommend this series, and do feel that the reader should start at book one.

*I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
